Rufford Country Park and Sherwood Forest - 10 Mile Walk

This route covers Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve and extends towards Ollerton, Wellow, and the surrounding countryside. It is situated near Rufford Country Park, but the route itself appears to go more into Sherwood Forest and loops through nearby villages.

Route Overview:
  • Starting Area: Near Ollerton or Wellow

  • Heading North: The route moves into Sherwood Forest NNR, which is famous for its ancient oaks, including the legendary Major Oak, linked to Robin Hood.

  • Forest Trails: The loop through Sherwood Forest likely follows well-trodden footpaths and bridleways, offering scenic woodland views.

  • Returning South: The route then heads back towards Wellow and the surrounding fields before returning to the starting point.

  • Mixture of forest trails, countryside paths, and quiet lanes

  • Generally flat, but with some uneven terrain in the woodland sections

  • Great for walking, running, and cycling
